Energy Shift: Designing Your Sacred Space

I believe in the Law of Attraction.

I believe that where your attention goes, your energy flows.

I believe in visioning and manifestation to create the life you want for yourself.

Keeping that in mind as we are living and working through turbulent times with COVID and justifiable social unrest, I can’t stress enough the importance of creating an element of peace and serenity in your home.

As spiritual beings living a human experience, we are constantly changing and growing. Shouldn’t your residence complement that? You aren’t the same person you were 5 or 10 years ago, so why wouldn’t you create a home to reflect that and grow with you? There’s no need to totally renovate, but how about declutter, move things around, and shift that energy? Remove the old to make room for the new. It’s time for change…in our country and

in your home.

FIVE SIMPLE SHIFTS TO CHANGE THE VIBE AND

CREATE POSITIVE ENERGY IN YOUR SPACE:

ONE: CHOOSE A CALMING COLOR PALETTE

As you know, a coat of paint will change the ‘face of a space’ and create any mood that you

desire.  For your sacred space, choose a soothing color… nothing that is over stimulating.  Colors such as blush, muted gray, pale yellow, off-white, and even deep blue will calm and enhance any room. To create more of a ‘jewel box’ feeling, paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. And if you’re really feeling adventurous, rather than paint, find a beautiful metallic wallpaper for the ceiling.  As the lighting hits, it will create a sparkle of joy.

TWO: TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS

Next time you watch a movie, pay attention to how lighting is used to create a mood.  Lighting can make a scene romantic, happy, anxious, and even scary.  To alter your mood and create a zen-type of space in your home, you want to turn down or get rid of those bright LED lights. Of course during the day, let as much natural light in as possible, as it does wonders for the spirit. As the sun sets, go for more of an incandescent type of lighting…consider adding dimmers to your light switches which will dramatically shift the mood and energy. Add a beautiful lamp to help provide just enough light, as you read, journal or relax in the early morning or late night. And I can’t stress enough how important it is to turn off your electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime to help prepare your mind, body and soul for what it craves – relaxation and sleep.

THREE: BUY A BOUQUET

Fresh flowers will brighten a room and create a beautiful aroma, while also boosting your mood. It’s said that some flowers can trigger emotions in your brain —it’s called aromatherapy. Flowers create an overall feeling of happiness. Studies have also shown that flowers can boost the production of creative ideas and solutions.  Some of my favorites, depending upon the season, include lilies —any kind from calla to stargazers…my number one go to flower, that you’ll always find in my home.  Reasonably priced, long lasting options include gladiolus, tulips, and hydrangeas (tip: always use HOT water with these beauties).

FOUR: LIGHT A FLAME

Candles can help with your focus and intention. The flame draws you in, then helps center and relax you while also balancing the mood of any room. People may only think of candles for romance and birthday cakes, but they are so much more than that. How about romancing yourself, celebrating your home, remembering loved ones you’ve lost, and setting your intentions? On top of that, a scented candle adds another special touch, an additional element that arouses your senses, and sets the mood and tone for your space. One that I often use in my client projects and in my home has a soothing, universal scent. It’s called Bamboo by NEST. No,

it doesn’t exactly smell like bamboo to me, but it does smell like something wonderful, and is a positive, uplifting scent that you will learn to crave. Another one of my favs are those from the Harlem Candle Company where the scents are inspired by the “richness of Harlem” with candles named Josephine, Langston, Ellington, Speakeasy and others to delight your senses and ignite your soul.

FIVE: PUMP UP THE VOLUME

I’m sure you’ve heard the term, ‘music feeds the soul.’ If you want to change your vibration and feel joy, peace, relaxation, inspiration - use music to do so. Perhaps you have an old turntable and would like to throw on an album every once in awhile or even a cassette tape or CD (I’m taking you back…and showing my age), embrace it. Let your music and the way you play it (old school or new school) take you back, or move you forward in whatever direction feeds your soul. Consider finding a beautiful console or vintage cabinet to house your musical devices, and by doing this, you’ll create an infusion of the old and the new…blended energy.

Be open.

Be daring.

Be in a space of allowing, and watch the vibe shift and the energy flow...

Other things to add to your space to create more of a relaxing retreat…

beautiful pillows, soft throw blankets, area rugs, photographs/art work, books/magazines, small table or bar cart for a cup of coffee or glass of wine…and anything that’s important to you such as family heirlooms or crystals.

Yes!!!!! Love all of this! With the heaviness going on around the world, I love your vision to be deliberate in creating a home that reflects peace, beauty, creativity and growth. So timely, now that I’m mainly working from home.

I so love this! Being more attuned to energy shifts is that this helps you to differentiate between your own emotions and feelings, that are reactions to the emotions that surrounds you. During this unprecedented time, it is important to incorporate some of your ideas to help get us through. We are in this together. Great share!
